Hotchley Hill signalbox progress

The restoration of Hotchley Hill signalbox is making good progress. Now the interior plaster boarding work and painting is all but finished, our volunteer team have installed a block shelf which will hold all the important instruments needed to control trains. They have also started to secure period signalling items and furnishings through auctions.

The building was almost derelict less than a decade ago. A full programme of repairs means it's now watertight and looking splendid. With a new floor, lever frame and conduit for lighting and power you can really get a sense of what the finished project will look like. There's a lot of activity still to take place inside the box - and outside too, with re arrangements to track and signals requiring installation. However, one day this will be an essential control point on the 18 mile Great Central Railway.
