Great Central Railway (Nottingham) is run entirely by volunteers and funded by the generosity of people who believe in preserving Britain's railway heritage. Every contribution — however large or small — makes a real difference.
The Great Central Railway (Nottingham) is a registered charity and a volunteer-run heritage railway. Unlike commercial attractions, we have no external funding, no corporate backing and no government subsidy. Everything we do — every locomotive that steams, every carriage that runs, every event we host — is made possible by the people who love this railway and want to see it thrive.
We are also working towards one of the most ambitious heritage railway projects in Britain: the Reunification of the two preserved Great Central sections, which will create an 18-mile heritage line from Ruddington to Leicester North. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity — and it needs the support of people like you to make it happen.
Whether you donate, become a member, volunteer your time or simply spread the word — every act of support helps us preserve this irreplaceable piece of railway history for generations to come.
The single most exciting project in our railway's history is within reach. Just 500 metres separates our preserved line from the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire — and when that gap is bridged, it will create an 18-mile heritage railway, the longest double-track heritage line in Britain.
Work is already underway. Three major sections of bridgework are complete and planning consent has been secured. But to complete the final stages and see trains running the full 18 miles, we need the support of everyone who cares about Britain's railway heritage.
Every visitor, every volunteer, every donor and every supporter plays a part in keeping this railway alive. On behalf of everyone at the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) — our volunteers, our staff, and the thousands of visitors who have shared in this journey with us — thank you.
If you'd like to discuss any aspect of supporting the railway, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
